Ralph Lloyd Blevins

Ralph Lloyd Blevins, much loved husband of Oma (Liz) Blevins passed away a few weeks after his 98th birthday. He was born December 19, 1914 in El Campo, Texas to Ralph and Grace Blevins.

 

Ralph attended welding school after graduating high school, then was employed as a welding foreman for the California Shipbuilding Corp. Terminal Island, Wilmington, Calif. from 1941 to 1944. He supervised a group of 80 welders fusing the shell plates used outside of ship structures.

 

Ralph joined the army at the age of 30 and was assigned to 28th Division, 112th Regiment, 1st Battalion, Company D, 2nd Platoon, 1st Squad. He arrived in France two weeks after D-Day, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and continued his service in France and Germany.


Ralph moved to Oregon and became a real estate broker and later owned Hight Real Estate.


He was introduced to Oma Elizabeth Smith, Liz as he chose to call her, by mutual friends. They married in 1989 and traveled in their motorhome to many places fishing and enjoying the sights.


Ralph is survived by his wife, Liz; son, Michael Lowe and wife Peggy; daughter, Mindy Baird and husband David; his nephew, Michael Jewitt and wife, Linda. Survivors also include numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Helen Jewitt and other siblings.


Viewing will be at Conger Morris Central Point Chapel, Friday, January 11, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held Monday, January 14, 2013, at Conger Morris Central Point Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Ralph will be laid to rest at the Eagle Point National Cemetery with full military honors at 1:00 p.m.
