April 9, 1930 - December 2, 2012

James Jim Egli was born April 9, 1930, in Albany, Oregon, to David Richard Egli and Thelma Mae Fox Egli. Jim attended Mt. Harris Military Academy and completed two years of general education courses at Linn-Benton Community College.

Jim enlisted in the Air Force in 1949. He served about 11 years in the Air Force with assignments in the United States, England, Japan, and Greenland. He earned the Korea Defense Medal and Air Force Longevity Commendation, as well as other recognition for his service to his country in the Air Force.

Jim worked for Volkswagen dealerships in the parts department and as a service writer in Las Vegas, Nev. and in Los Angeles, Calif., before becoming a postal carrier. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service until 1980 in Las Vegas, and Barstow and San Bernardino, Calif. After Jim left the Postal Service, he worked as a bartender in Sweet Home, Ore.; an office manager at AMVETS in Albuquerque, N. M.; and a motel manager in Santa Fe, N. M. Jim retired in 1993 and moved to Medford, Oregon.

Jim was a longtime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Over his lifetime Jim was a member of the First Christian Church, Elks, and golf clubs in several communities. Besides golf, Jim enjoyed dancing and roller skating. He had a great memory for singers and actors of the 1940s and 1950s, and he enjoyed sharing his movie and music collections with his friends at the Grand Apartment Building in Medford.

Large, extended family and family gatherings were important to Jim. He is survived by his sisters, Dona Egli, Sally Rowlinson (George), and Kathleen Jordan; nieces, Pamela Burnham (Bruce) and Cheryl Sheridan (Donald); nephew, Richard Johnson; cousin, Doris Egli Yoder; Aunt Vera Fox; 14 Fox family first cousins; and former wife, Cami, with whom he maintained a lifelong friendship.

He was preceded in death by niece, Erin Johnson; and nephew, Ray Johnson Jr.

A memorial service is planned for April 2013 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. Arrangements are being made by Smart Cremation of Beaverton, Ore.
