The North Medford wrestling team gave South Medford all it could handle in their Southwest Conference dual on Thursday.
Earning pins in eight of their 11 victories, the undefeated Black Tornado topped South Medford 63-15 to rope in a victory in their SWC debut at North Medford High.
As anticipated, one of the better matches of the night belonged to North's Wyatt Westfall and the Panthers' Brandon Brooks. Westfall was the victor earning a 4-2 decision.
"He's a tough kid and a good wrestler," said North Medford coach Nolan Harris on South's Brooks. "Brooks is a good competitor and we feel good about that win. We felt it would be close. It was one we really wanted to win."
Austin Runyan of North Medford (7-0) picked up his first varsity dual win by pinning the Panthers' TJ Roberts in 1 minute and 51 seconds at the 134 pound level.
"It's always nerve-racking being under the lights and he did a good job of going out in the first round and getting a pin," said Harris of the junior Runyan.
