  • BBB phone line gets you 'a live person'

  • How do you reach someone at the Better Business Bureau? I've got a company I want to talk to them about. There is some monkey business going on, and I need to talk to them. I don't have a computer and can't email them, and haven't been able to find a phone number.

It took us a few calls and trips to Google before we got the right person to help you, Ernie. But we think we've got you covered now.
The closest Better Business Bureau office is in Lake Oswego. The agency can be reached through a variety of numbers. The primary number for Oregon residents is 1-503-212-3022, but 1-206-431-2222 and 1-253-830-2924 will also work.
The Northwest regional office — covering Alaska, Oregon and Western Washington — is staffed 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
"You get a live person here," said David Quinlan, BBB's public relations director for the Northwest region. "You will have to go through an automated system at the beginning, but that will get you to the right person."
In 2011, the BBB handled 140 million calls, emails and website contacts, including 970,000 complaints in the United States and Canada.
Quinlan said his region dealt with 2.9 million business reviews and 40,000 complaints during that period.
The Northwest region is the BBB's second-largest geographical area and has a 75-person staff.
Consumers have access to reliability reports 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through BBB's website (www.bbb.org) and automated phone system.
