Spartans fight off Totems for WSHL win

Taylor McConnell's second-period goal put Southern Oregon ahead for good as the Spartans picked up a 5-3 victory over the Seattle Totems in Western States Hockey League action at The RRRink on Saturday.

Southern Oregon jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals by Avik Bordak and Jeff Salzbrunn in the first period. Seattle tied the score at 2-all one period later before Anthony Golio knocked in a goal at the 10:16 mark to give the Spartans a 3-2 advantage. A few minutes later, Marcus Triezenberg tied it again.

McConnell scored to give Southern Oregon the lead and then added one more goal in the third period.

Goalkeepers Mikael Pesola and Sean Buckley each made 12 saves.

Southern Oregon (16-12) outshot Seattle (9-18-2-5) 52-27.
