Storage unit fire snuffed quickly

Fire damaged two storage units in the Cedar Tree Apartments complex in Medford this morning, but fire crews extinguished the blazes quickly before they spread to other units.

The call for a fire came in at 5:27 a.m., reporting flames and smoke coming from the two units at 2300 E. Barnett Road. Medford Fire-Rescue battalion chief Rick Rohrbough said there was an initial full structure response with four engines and about 13 firefighters. Crews had the blaze knocked down in about two minutes.

No apartments had to be evacuated, as the storage units are not directly connected to them. No one was hurt.

Fire investigation crews are currently on scene determining the cause. They believe the ignition point was on a sofa inside one of the units.

"What caused the sofa to burn up we don't know," Rohrbough said.

Fire crews estimate about $3,000 in damage.
