Teen dies in crash on icy North Foothill Road

An 18-year-old Medford woman died in a crash in the 5900 block of North Foothill Road in Central Point after losing control on the icy road, the Jackson County Sheriff's Department reported.

At about 8:15 a.m., Shelbi Stevens was driving north on North Foothill Road in a 1985 Volkswagen Jetta when she lost control of the car while going around a corner, a news release from the sheriff's office said. The Jetta slammed into a 2002 Toyota Camry driven by Ashley Villarreal, 27, of Eagle Point.

Stevens was pronounced dead on the scene, officials said.

Investigators suspect Stevens lost control because of icy conditions.

The sheriff's department was assisted by Jackson County Fire District No. 3, Medford Fire-Rescue and Mercy Flights.

North Foothills Road was closed while emergency responders removed debris and investigated the crash. The road has since reopened.

Stevens played softball at North Medford High School.
