ROGUE RIVER — City police on Monday arrested two men suspected in a rash of Christmas mailbox thefts.
Jacob G. Loper, 19, of 525 W. Evans Creek Road, and a 17-year-old boy are facing multiple charges of felony theft in three separate cases.
The two are suspected of rifling mailboxes in Rogue River for everything from Christmas and gift cards to a Christmas package containing a gold and ruby ring that was valued at $800.
Police traced the ring to a pawn shop in Grants Pass, but it already had been sold and melted down.
Police posted fliers warning about the thefts on mailboxes and bulletin boards and at several businesses.
The two suspects were identified after the Jackson County Sheriff's Department arrested them for other alleged mail thefts on East Evans Creek Road.
Separate interviews at the Rogue River police station led to the additional charges Monday.
The suspects may also be charged with federal crimes for allegedly stealing U.S. mail.
