  • Charles Henry Hoyt passed away January 10, 2013, at Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, Ore. He passed after a short illness, surrounded by many loving family members. He was born June 12, 1933, in Iowa City, Iowa. When he was a young boy he moved to Oregon with his mother, Hazel, his step-father, Joe Hoyt, and his sisters.
    He attended Milo Academy, and graduated Laurelwood Academy. Chuck joined the Army in 1956, where he was stationed in Germany.
    Chuck met Marlene Smith and their first official date was at Kim's Restaurant. They married August 30, 1958. Charles and Marlene had two children, Charla Combs (Craig), and Donnie Hoyt (Colleen), both of Medford, Ore. He spent many years coaching sporting events for Donnie and later on attending football, baseball, and basketball games supporting his grandchildren. He had a long career in the flooring business, building many long-term friendships through the years.
    He loved to work in his yard and his garden, sharing his tomatoes with everyone. He enjoyed fishing with his buddies, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren, often enjoying a week at Emigrant Lake in their trailer. Chuck loved to visit with his many friends and neighbors.
    Chuck is survived by his wife, Marlene; his two children; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren who he adored. He is also survived by his twin sister, Charlene Baker and sister, Joann Jennings, many nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Cheryl Rhodes.
    A memorial service will be held January 19, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Rogue Valley Fellowship, 2399 S. Pacific Hwy, Medford, Ore.
    Donations may be made in his memory to Southern Oregon Humane Society, where they adopted their sweet dog, Gracie.
