Third Friday in Medford

Check out new exhibits at Rogue Gallery & Art Center and Art du Jour
Landscapes from around the world, including"Nebraska Gold" by Norm Rossignol, are displayed at Art du Jour in Medford.

Rogue Gallery & Art Center goes nude in January.

"Figuratively Speaking," sculptures and paintings depicting the human figure, many of them nude, opens in time for the Third Friday art walk, Jan. 18, and will be displayed through March 1 at the gallery, 40 S. Bartlett St., Medford.

The exhibit was juried by a committee of professional artists who looked for works that were more innovative than literal.

Artists represented are Kevin Christman (bronze sculptures and photography-and-pastel wall hangings), Keith Johnson (mixed-media paintings and drawings), Inger Nova Jorgensen (oil paintings), Katharine Gracey (oil paintings), Janet Higgins (ceramic and steel sculptures), Denise Souza Finney (acrylic paintings), Christie Michele Stewart (oil paintings), Karen Staal (oil paintings) and Daniel Verner (acrylic paintings).

"The fascinating thing about the exhibit is that you have nine artists who approach the human figure with such different interpretations," says Kim Hearon, the gallery's interim executive director.

Some figures are posed, some hidden and some are abstract, she says. Abstract expressionism, post-modernism and other styles are represented.

An opening reception with wine by RoxyAnn Winery, cheeses from Rogue Creamery and snacks by Harry & David will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at the gallery.

Paintings of Egyptian pyramids, Canadian lighthouses, Mexican beaches and English countrysides make up Art du Jour's January exhibit, "Far Away Places," featuring works by nearly 20 gallery members.

Individual exhibits by gallery members also will be displayed. Gallery members are Pat Blair, Ruthanne Bray, Millie Clarke, Dodie Hamilton, Margo Garnett, Gayle Gray, Georganne Happel, Ruth Heath, Judy Hubler, Boni Kettering, Dixie Kinser, Yvonne Kitchen, Susie Lee, Ginny Matheson, Margery Mercer, Norm Rossignol, Bobby Sharp, Dick Woods, Marilyn Zupan and a recent addition, Alx Fox.

An artists' reception with refreshments will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at the gallery, 213 E. Main St. For more information, call 541-770-3190 or see
