'Fireproof' film shown at First Church of God

Free worship concert planned in Central Point

Tibetan Buddhist event features teachings on calm

Kagyu Sukha Chöling's spiritual director Venerable Lama Lodru Rinpoche will lead a weekend of spiritual teachings on calm abiding and insight meditations, and Vajrasattva purification practice from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, and from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 19 and 20, at 109 Clear Creek Drive, Ashland.

The cost is a suggested donation of $25 per session.

RVUUF celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The Rev. Leslie Becknell Marx will give a sermon titled "A Prophet of Peace — Martin Luther King Jr." at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at Rogue Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 87 Fourth St., Ashland. Religious exploration classes and child care are available.

The center will hold an introductory event called "Getting to Know RVUUF" from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Emerson House, adjacent to RVUUF, 65 Fourth St., Ashland. The event is geared toward those who'd like to learn more about Unitarian Universalism, its origins, or for those who'd like to get more acquainted with those who attend. A light lunch will be served. RSVP is requested but not required, and child care will be available with advance notice.

Healthy Living Ministries plans cooking demo, forum

Healthy Living Ministries, the temperance ministry of the Central Point Seventh-day Adventist Church, will hold a cooking demonstration and open-forum discussion with Dr. James Said, and a healthy luncheon from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at 625 N. 10th St. The cost is a requested donation of $8.

The Rev. Joy-Anne Fournier will give a sermon titled "Laying the Foundation" at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at the Center for Spiritual Living, 3581 Lear Way, Medford. The sermon will cover three core concepts of the teachings at all Centers for Spiritual Living.
