Oregon State Police troopers found more than 12 pounds of crystal methamphetamine during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 near Ashland.

At about 8:40 a.m. Thursday, a trooper stopped a northbound 2006 Nissan Altima with California license plates for speeding on I-5 near milepost 11. The lone person in the car was identified as Jesus Paz Flores, 28, from Adelanto, Calif.

Subsequent investigation led to the seizure of approximately 12.5 pounds of crystal meth hidden in the vehicle, police said in a news release today. Police estimated the value of the seized methamphetamine at $190,000.

Flores was taken into custody without incident and lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of manufacture, possession and distribution of methamphetamine. He remains in jail this morning on more than $1 million bail.

During the investigation, troopers were assisted by OSP Drug Enforcement Section detectives and the Rogue Area Drug Enforcement team.
