  • PHOENIX — Phoenix forced the Cascade Christian boys basketball team to play at its pace in the first half but the Challengers were having no part of that in the second half of Saturday's nonleague game at Phoenix High.
Cascade Christian broke open a one-point contest with a flurry of third-quarter baskets and won going away against the Pirates, 66-45.
"We were trying to fastbreak the whole game and they were doing a good job getting back and the game was really slowed down in the first half," said Cascade Christian head coach Brian Morse. "We emphasized in the second half to push the ball and increase the need for intensity and I think their legs got tired and we got a lot of fastbreak points."
David Sellers finished with 17 points and 15 rebounds to pace the Challengers (11-4), while Alex Miller scored all 12 of his points in the second half to go with six rebounds and five assists. Reserve guard Jake Brown also scored all 10 of his points in the final 16 minutes and doled out five assists.
Dakota Kotsios was 6 of 8 from the field and scored 12 points to lead Phoenix (7-10), which trailed 23-22 at halftime thanks to a steady defensive effort. Tyson Morris had nine points and Joe Raffensperger added seven for the Pirates.
"I'm proud of our boys, they played hard," said Phoenix head coach Glenn Johannes.
