Wellness workshops, health screenings and product samples from more than 80 practitioners and vendors are planned, along with a fun walk/run, for the third annual Rogue Valley Health Fair.
Presented by Providence Medical Group, the fair is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Medford Armory, 1701 S. Pacific Highway. The $2 entry fee, $5 race fee and raffle tickets will benefit Southern Oregon Sparrow Clubs. Also collecting food for ACCESS, organizers will waive the fair entry fee for donors of two nonperishable grocery items.
The event kicks off at 8:15 a.m. with the one-mile walk/run, open to all ages and hosted by volunteers from the Southern Oregon Runners club. The course starts at the Armory, with sign-in at 8 a.m. Participants are encouraged to solicit donations for Sparrow Clubs, a nonprofit organization that assists hundreds of local children with serious medical needs. Businesses contribute to the cause through partnerships with area schools that perform community service for their Sparrows.
Each of the first 250 people admitted to the health fair will receive a free loaf of bread from Medford's Great Harvest Bread Co. and a Medford Food Co-op grocery tote of coupons, freebies and informational materials. More prizes will be raffled off to raise funds for Sparrow Clubs.
Workshop topics include: "Herbs for Health and Healing," "Vibrant, Healthy Skin at Any Age," self-defense, naturopathic medicine, how to help aging parents and how to recognize, prevent and manage Type 2 diabetes. Sessions are planned every hour.
Free health evaluations will screen glucose levels for diabetes, blood pressure for heart disease, musculo-skeletal alignment for chronic pain, as well as antioxidant levels. For information, see www.roguevalleyhealthfair.org.
