  • Grace Jovanovic helped the North Medford girls swim team secure second place in a three-team meet at Rogue Valley YMCA on Saturday.
    The Black Tornado boys, led by Bryant Almanza, settled with third in the event dominated by Roseburg. The Roseburg boys won with 425 points while the girls scored 455 to place first.
    Jovanovic scored four victories overall. Individually, she won the 100 fly in 1 minute, 0.53 seconds and earned another in the 100 breast, clocking 1:11.47.
    As the third leg she helped the 200 medley relay squad comprising Lauren Hunter, Carly Freda and Rayna Carson seize the victory in 2:04.44.
    Jovanovic, along with Hunter, Carson and Monica Godfrey, won the 200 free relay in 1:50.82.
    On the boys side, Almanza also wrapped up four total victories. He earned individual honors with wins in the 50 free (24.55) and 100 breast (1:09.31).
    Almanza joined Reid Gibson, Jack Cowan and Brad Olsen to get wins in both the 200 medley relay (1:53.76) and 200 free relay (1:40.28).

    OISRA RACE — At Sisters, Clara Honsinger snared fifth place in the OISRA Southern Oregon Ski Race at Hoodoo Ski Resort, guiding the Ashland girls ski team to fourth place on Saturday.
    The Ashland boys team was fifth of six teams at the Division I level.
    Honsinger finished the 5.5K event in 23 minutes, 13 seconds. Ashland's Alice Oline picked up 20th with a time of 27.52 and Paige Stephens tied for 36th (31:43) out of 59 competitors.
    Also for Ashland, Alison Roden took 43rd (32:45) and Raven Borgilt placed 48th (34:55).
    For the boys, Gavan Borgias grabbed 20th (25:05) with his teammate Nathan Ostovar taking 36th (27:49). Bohdan Schurr was 44th of 49, clocking 30:21.
    The Phoenix girls team took first place in Division II out of two teams. Phoenix's Ashley Vos took 40th (32:28), Katie Vermillion 47th (34:52) and Lindsey Vermillion 49th (34:56).
