  • Two Rogue Community College students have been named to the 2013 Oregon Community College Association's All Oregon Academic Team for their community service and academic success, RCC officials reported.
Dylan Orton and Eric Grace were selected by RCC Vice President of Instruction Kirk Gibson. Gibson chose the two from a field of students nominated by RCC teachers.
Both students will receive $1,000 scholarships to an Oregon public university and attend a spring reception with Gov. John Kitzhaber, joining students nominated from Oregon's other 16 community colleges. Both also are eligible to compete on the national level for All American Academic Team scholarships.
Orton, 29, is majoring in business technology and computer security. She attended K-12 school sporadically because of family circumstances, and lived homeless for a period of time. She passed her GED examination in 2009 and enrolled for the fall 2009 term. She received high marks, including an A+ in her first term of credit classes.
Orton volunteers at several local organizations, including Habitat for Humanity.
Eric Grace, 35, started taking RCC classes in 2011 and has since transferred to Southern Oregon University. He is working toward a double major in psychology and music there and hopes to become a licensed counselor.
Grace also is a volunteer youth mentor and moderator for the Rogue Valley Action Network.
