  • I am concerned about funding for the Phoenix Police Department.
Over the past year I have had the good fortune to get to know some of the officers and to see how the department works. I am impressed with this department. I have lived here a long time and have seen times when things were not running well.
I would like to see our department and officers supported in all ways possible so that they can do their incredibly important and dangerous jobs.
Taking away support staff so that the officers can do more clerical paperwork is an inefficient way to run any organization. I have seen this before and it just doesn't make sense.
I have seen very well-intentioned decisions made that in the long run cost more money. Who is going to spend time and effort to train a new clerk?
How much will it cost to recruit and train new officers when our experienced ones leave for better pay and better work conditions?
Let's find funds for the Phoenix Police Department and not ask them to take cuts.
Please come to a Phoenix City Council meeting and show your support for our officers. — Laurie Nielsen, Phoenix
