  • The North Medford wresting team got a big boost from its seniors in a 45-24 Southwest Conference victory over Grants Pass at North Medford High on Wednesday.
Seniors Austin Mitchell (120 pounds), Tyler Pearson (126), Reid Shipley (170), Kaden Johnson (195), Jacob Kasper (220) and Avion Maloney (285) all prevailed.
"That was cool seeing our seniors leading the pack," North Medford head coach Nolan Harris said.
In the first match of the night, Mitchell defeated Zachary Nance 6-2. Later, Ryan Leach pinned Taner Carrick in the 145-pound bout.
"That was where we could breath a little knowing our upper weights were going to do what they did," Harris said of Leach's triumph.
The Black Tornado went on to pick up a pair of forfeit wins, followed by a pin by Johnson, an 8-6 overtime decision by Kasper and pins by Maloney and Henry Cox (106).
North improved to 7-1 in duals.
