  • ROGUE RIVER — Shawn Donahue sparked a big fourth-quarter as Rogue River rallied for a 53-48 victory against St. Mary's in Southern Cascade Hybrid boys basketball Friday.
    Donahue, a senior wing, scored 10 of his game-high 17 points in the final period. Donahue also grabbed eight rebounds.
    "(Donahue) gives us toughness and leadership," Rogue River coach Ron Haynes said, "and he's our second leading rebounder."
    St. Mary's (6-13, 2-3 SCH) led 24-18 at halftime.
    "Our kids were upset with the way they were playing in the first half," said Haynes. "We were getting some shots but were just shooting poorly."
    The Chieftains (8-11, 2-3) were 6 of 25 from the field in the opening half.
    Rogue River cut its deficit to 33-32 going into the fourth quarter. The Chiefs took the lead for good with about six minutes remaining en route to outscoring the Crusaders 21-15 in the period.
    Rogue River senior point guard Andy Valencia contributed 14 points, six rebounds and five assists.
    The Chieftains won the battle of the boards, 34-19, with Seth Gretz pulling down a team-high 10.
    St. Mary's was paced by Glenn Alvarez (14 points) and Connor Vinyard (11).
    "We're not the biggest or most experienced team," said Haynes, "but you can't measure our heart. We're going to fight."

    LAKEVIEW 59, ILLINOIS VALLEY 44 — At Cave Junction, after the first quarter, Illinois Valley had a difficult time keeping up with Lakeview, which received 21 points from Lane Hadley.
    Zach Welch led the way for the Cougars (5-14, 0-5 SCH) with 15 points, making three 3-pointers.
