  • EAGLE POINT — Austin Mitchell's usually gets wins by decision for the North Medford wrestling team.
    But on Thursday, the 113-pounder earned a big victory for the Black Tornado with a pin as the Black Tornado downed Eagle Point, 39-27.
    "He's kind of been under the radar," said North coach Nolan Harris of Mitchell, who pinned Christian Torrico in 2 minutes, 34 seconds. "Before last season, he didn't pin a whole lot. He used to just rack up a bunch of points. But now he's really bought into getting pins."
    Equally impressive was North Medford freshman Cole Hornbrook's 7-5 victory over third-ranked 132-pounder Alek Callahan of Eagle Point.
    At 170, Reid Shipley of the Tornado (8-2), won an 8-4 decision over Hunter Hoeptner, who jumped up from the 160-pound class.
    For Eagle Point (7-7), Johnny Wilkerson endured a tough test from Kaden Johnson, but Wilkerson's takedown with two seconds remaining earned a 3-2 win.
    The Eagles also received a big win from Caleb Ash, who topped North's Wyatt Westfall, 8-2.

    ROSEBURG 34, CRATER 29 — At Roseburg, each team claimed seven matches, three each by fall, but Roseburg eked out the win with the help of a forfeit in the dual match.
    Crater got falls from Dillon Ulrey at 138 pounds, Chase Mackey at 160 and Derek Turituri — who needed only 20 seconds — at 285 pounds.
    Tyler Thomas worked overtime for a 5-3 victory at 126 for the Comets.

    GRANTS PASS 58, SOUTH MEDFORD 9 — At Grants Pass, South Medford managed to win two matches, including a pin by Ruben Mendez at 145 pounds, and fell to 2-7 in dual meets.
    Mendez defeated Keil Nicholas in 2 minutes, 50 seconds to give the Panthers their first points. Brandon Brooks picked up South's second win moments later at 152, beating Colton White in a 6-0 decision.

    Allen also contributed five assists for the Red Tail Hawks (15-3, 10-1 MVL), who limited Gilchrist to 14 first-half points.
    Micah Neufeld scored 22 points and Johnny Alvarez had 12 points and eight assists in the win.

    Kaelyn Scott registered 15 points, four rebounds and three assists for the Red Tail Hawks (4-14, 2-8 MVL). Ashton Petray went for nine points, five steals, three rebounds and three assists and Kendra Haugen pulled down six boards.

    Jenson also had two assists, as did teammate Ryan Lund. Isaac Crumley had one assist.
    For North, Joshua Wu had two goals and an assist, and William Spence one goal and two assists. Michael Fthenakis scored, and other assists were by Max Henry, Lindsay Courtney, Jeremy Wu and Dylan Wu.
    South goalie John Lines made 23 saves, and North's Calvin Casaday had 24.
