Yumi Maruyama Stewart, 85, of Medford, Ore., passed away January 31, 2013. She was born to Masaei and Yoshi Maruyama on Febuary 24, 1927, in Tokyo, Japan. On October 18, 1951, Yumi married Thomas R. Stewart of Murrysville, Penn., who was in the U.S. Army stationed in Japan. Yumi became a U.S. citizen September 6, 1962, and moved to Medford in October 1972.

Yumi was the youngest of 10 children and is survived by her nieces and nephews in Japan, along with her children, John E. Stewart, of Eagle Point, Ore. and Katherine A. Stewart, of Gig Harbor, Wash.; her grandchildren, Kelly A. Stewart, Christopher Jacobson, and Conrad Jacobson, of Portland, and Eric J. Stewart, who is serving with the U.S. Army in South Korea; her great-grandchildren, Luke, Seth, and Carson Jacobson; and Maria Brune.

Yumi enjoyed cooking and taking road trips to see the sights across the country.

No service is planned. She wished her friends and family to have fond memories of her and celebrate life. And special thanks to the staff and friends at Anna Maria Creekside, where she spent her last years.
