Erika Maria Cullison

Erika Maria Cullison, 98, passed away January 23, 2013, at her home in Jacksonville. Erika was born April 7, 1914, in Hamburg, Germany to Mr. and Mrs. Mittag.

 

She arrived to America at the age of 14 and later became a nanny to the children of Gene Tunney (the world heavyweight champion boxer), a fitness model, an Avon consultant, and a nutrition advisor. Erika was an inspiration for strength and grace.

 

She outlived her two siblings, first husband, three sons, friends, and pets. Survivors are her husband, Charles Cullison; and Nichole Lott (only grandchild) who loved and cared for her greatly.


She made the best banana pancakes and was known for her sauerbraten. She lit up the room with poetry, jokes, smiles, making the best of any situation, and taught us health, love, and forgiveness. I, Nichole, was blessed to be a part of her journey even to her last day. We departed saying as we often did "Ich liebe dich," "Ich liebe dich auch," "Schlaf gut."
