Three finalists selected for Ashland superintendent job

The number of people in the running to be the next superintendent of the Ashland School District has been narrowed to three, district officials reported.

The finalists to replace retiring Superintendent Juli Di Chiro are William McCoy, superintendent of Red Bluff Union School District in California; Debra Munk, principal of Rockville High School in Maryland; and Gary Plano, superintendent of Mercer Island School District in Washington.

The school board announced the names of the three, who were identified through a rigorous application, screening and initial interview process.

Board members are preparing to visit each of the candidate's school districts. They will perform comprehensive reference checks for each candidate.

The candidates will visit Ashland Feb. 15-16.

Four committees composed of community members, parents and staff will conduct interviews, then the board will conduct final interviews on Saturday, Feb. 16.

The board plans to vote on Monday, Feb. 18. The new superintendent will be announced the last week of February.
