He defeated Illinois Valley's Gabe Miller 5-3 at 145 pounds as the Pirates posted a 36-24 dual-meet victory.

Miller is a two-time state runner-up.

Vega edged Crater wrestler Tyler Thomas as nearly 1,200 votes were cast.
