Man killed in 199 crash Wednesday named

Police have released the name of a Crescent City man who was killed after accidentally smashing his truck into a tree south of Cave Junction Wednesday afternoon.

Oregon State Police said Floyd Dale Long, 75, was driving south on Highway 199 near milepost 37 just before 2 p.m. when he failed to round a curve, crossed over the center median into the northbound lanes and smashed into a tree. Long was wearing a seat belt but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mercy Flights transported passenger Sandra Crockett, 65, to Rogue Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. Hospital officials still list her in critical condition this morning. It's not yet known if she was wearing a seat belt during the crash, police said.

Emergency responders from OSP, the Josephine County Sheriff's Department, the Illinois Valley Fire District, Mercy Flights, AMR Ambulance and Oregon Department of Transportation responded to the crash.
