  • CENTRAL POINT — Smothering second-half defense by the Crater boys basketball team allowed it to go out as a winner on senior night at Crater High School.
    Seniors Cody Dismukes and RJ Morgan put together big performances to guide the Comets past Grants Pass for a 60-43 victory on Thursday.
    "Our defense was rock-solid in the second half," said Crater coach John Parent. "It was nice to see the seniors go out victorious. It was really what we wanted to see tonight."
    The Comets (13-8, 5-5 Southern Oregon Hybrid), who are in third place in the SOH standings, received 19 points and seven rebounds from Dismukes.
    Morgan generated 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals and junior Connor Lane gave the Comets 14 points.
    The defense of Tommy Stewart and Anthony Martin limited Dylan Stremple, one of the conference's leading scorers. Stremple finished with 10 points but was held to just two in the second half where, as a team, the Comets yielded just 18 points.
    Senior guard Evan Erskine added six assists for the Comets.
    For the Cavemen (6-13, 2-8 SOH), Micah Johnson led the way with 13 points.
