  • EUGENE — The Eagle Point wrestling team crowned two district champions and advanced 10 into the state championships at the Class 5A Special District 4 tournament on Saturday.

  • EUGENE — The Eagle Point wrestling team crowned two district champions and advanced 10 into the state championships at the Class 5A Special District 4 tournament on Saturday.
    Ashland's lone champion, Mason Montgomery, also earned a spot at state, set for Feb. 22-23 at Portland's Memorial Coliseum. The top four wrestlers from each weight class advance to the state championships.
    Eagle Point (297 points) was runner-up to Redmond (379). Ashland (78.5) took ninth out of 11 teams.
    Eagle Point's Johnny Wilkerson seized the 182-pound championship by earning a 7-2 decision over Gunnar Sigado of Redmond.
    Also earning top medalist honors for the Eagles was Hunter Hoeptner, who defeated Redmond's Tanner Barichio 3-2 in the 160-pound title match.
    Montgomery pinned Redmond's Zach Andruss in 3 minutes, 58 seconds to grab top honors at 195 pounds.
    Also qualifying for state for the Eagles were Orlando DeLaCruz, James McCoy, Eddie Perez, Levi Pomeroy, Ethan Pomeroy, Sherman Hammond, Thane Baumer and Caleb Ash.
