Ramona Mae (Guches) Elrod was called home to the Lord February 9, 2013. She was born March 2, 1930, on the family farm in Medford to parents Raymond R. and Ethel B (Coller) Guches. She graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1949, and then attended Southern Oregon College in Ashland for two years. She later completed beauty school in Portland, Ore. Ramona married Robert C. Elrod February 27, 1954, in Medford. They had three children; Leota, Leon and Bruce.
For many years Ramona worked seasonally at Bear Creek packing fruit baskets and roses.
All of her life Ramona was active in the Grange, serving in many roles, especially in the GWA. She was a member of Griffin Creek Grange until it disbanded and the Phoenix Grange. She was an active member and Consulting Rosarian in the Medford and Grants Pass Rose Society. She really enjoyed raising beautiful roses in her huge garden at home. While her children were young, Ramona was their 4-H leader for home economics projects.
Ramona survived polio as a teenager, and even though it affected her health her entire life, she never let it stop her from the things she wanted to do. She enjoyed camping, fishing and annual huckleberry picking trips with her family. She was always busy helping others where she could. She helped with rose shows, plant sales, bake sales and Grange bazaars. She sewed and tied innumerable quilts with her CWA group, most of which were donated to local charities.
Ramona was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Guches; and her beloved husband, Bob.
