It's the year of the snake

Join Jacksonville in celebrating the Chinese New Year.

What organizers dub "a crash course in Chinese culture" will include Chinese food, tai chi, history, calligraphy, acupuncture and kids' activities.

One highlight is the annual Lion and Dragon Dance Parade at 10:30 a.m. It starts at the corner of California and Oregon streets and proceeds four blocks to Fifth Street.

Educational lectures and demonstrations, along with origami and calligraphy lessons for kids, will be offered between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. at various locations around Jacksonville.
