Spartans blanked by Fresno

The Fresno Monsters did all their scoring in the first period and that's all it took in WSHL hockey Friday.

Fresno capitalized on a pair of power play goals en route to a 3-0 victory over the Southern Oregon Spartans at The RRRink.

The Monsters, the Western Division leader, took a 1-0 lead two minutes into the game on a goal by Jordan Fontaine. Then power play goals by Michael Freeman and Andrii Istominov completed the scoring.

Southern Oregon was 0-8 on power play opportunities.

After allowing three goals on 11 shots, Spartan goalie Sean Buckley was replaced by Austin Brihn in the final two periods. Posting the shutout in net for Fresno was Tom McGuckin, who stopped 33 shots.

The Spartans will complete the two-game series with Fresno and host the final home game of the regular season at 7:30 tonight at The RRRink.

Fresno Monsters 3 0 0 — 3

Southern Oregon 0 0 0 — 0
