Born December 21, 1930, in Touchet, Wash., Doris passed peacefully to Heaven, surrounded by her loving daughters, February 9, 2013, in Corvallis, Oregon. She loved her home and garden in Medford, Oregon.
Doris was the fifth of seven children in Leo and Elizabeth (Powell) Young's family. She grew up in Walla Walla, Wash. and graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1949. In September of that year she married Lawrence Torrey and was a faithful wife to him for 50 years.
Doris sacrificed many of her personal ambitions to support her husband and raise four daughters. She persevered in returning to school and completed both a bachelor of arts in education and a bachelor of arts in child development at Eastern Washington State College in 1971. Above all she was a motivational and creative mother.
She is survived by her four daughters, Lorna Torrey Palermo, Linda Calkin (Jim), Darla Long (Casey), and Debbie Suhner Torrey; eight grandchildren; and nearly five great-grandchildren.
A remembrance reception will be held at 3:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, February 24, 2013, at the Circle Church of Christ, 2020 NW Circle Blvd., Corvallis, Oregon.
