ROGUE RIVER, Ore. Ambrose Cecil "Woody" Woodall, 77, was born in Athens, Texas to Nellie Brattin and Ambrose Cecil Woodall. His father died shortly before Woody was born. In 1952, at age 16, he followed his brother John to California. In 1956 he married Carol Sinclaire in Canoga Park, Calif. They had three children Debbie, Warren, and Jeff. The family moved to Rogue River, Ore. in 1967. Woody and Carol divorced in 1974.
Woody was a member of the carpenter's union and was active in the Rogue River Chapter of Jaycees in the early 1970s.
Woody spent his life as a carpenter and builder of homes in the Rogue Valley. One of his proudest accomplishments was building the 40-home tract that came to be known as Brookside Village, a senior living complex in Rogue River. Woody left to work in Southern California in the early '80s. While there he remodeled the Zane Grey Hotel on Santa Catalina Island. He returned to Rogue River for good about 1995.
Woody loved his kids and was a great dad. He enjoyed hunting, sports, coaching, and being in the outdoors and could tell a story like no other. In recent years he loved traveling and researching his family roots with his companion Ellen Calkins of Rogue River and spending time with his family.
Woody was preceded in death by his mother, sisters Betty Kilbreath and Joanne Richards, and niece Jeannie Johnson. He is survived by his loving companion Ellen Calkins; his brother John (Laura); a step-brother David Hannah; daughter Debbie McCune (John) of Dallas, Ore.; son Warren (Marilyn) and son Jeff both of Rogue River; grandchildren Jessica, Ryan, Austin, Sophia, and Kyle; and many nieces and nephews.
