The Jackson County Recycling Partnership has extended the application deadline to register for the 2013 Master Recycler Training Course to Tuesday, Feb. 19.
The annual waste prevention and community service training instructs participants on waste reduction and reuse, plastics and electronics recycling, the local solid waste infrastructure, hazardous waste avoidance and composting. The course begins March 6.
Applications are available online at www.jcmasterrecyclers.org.
Since 2008, 150 residents and business representatives have completed the program, each fulfilling a minimum of 40 service hours in their homes, workplaces, neighborhoods and community groups. The volunteers work on local projects and programs that curtail waste generation and cultivate public awareness.
The annual training includes a handbook, discussion-based classes, presentations from local and regional experts, and field trips to Dry Creek Landfill, composting facilities and the waste-to-energy plant.
Weekly classes will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, March 6 through May 22, at the Jackson County Expo Mace Building, with an orientation on Feb. 20.
Class fees are $85 for individuals, $100 for nonprofits and $185 for businesses.
