Lois Irene Snyder Sullivan
Lois Sullivan passed away in her home in Jacksonville, Ore., Friday, February 8, 2013 at the age of 97.
Lois was born in Belloit, Kans. August 28, 1915 to Victor Leslie Snyder and Minnie Etha Johnson Snyder. The family moved from Kansas to the Rogue Valley (Medford) in 1916 where she attended Medford schools and graduated from Medford High School in 1933.
Lois attended Northwest Nazarene College in Napa, Idaho where she received a Lifetime Teaching Certificate. She also received her B.S. Degree in Education from Southern Oregon University. She then taught in both Medford and Central Point schools for 32 years.
Lois married John Leslie Sullivan August 27, 1942 in Reno, Nev. They had lived in Jacksonville, Ore. since 1952. They were married 58 years.
Lois is survived by her son, Jerry Sullivan and his wife Marti, of Citrus Heights, Calif. She is also survived by two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren; Jessica Sullivan (child, Ciera) of Stevenson Ranch, Calif. and Kylee (Hans) Heuer (children: Jaida, Lars, Ella) of Folsom, Calif. Lois was preceded in death by her son, John L. Sullivan Jr. in 1987, and her husband, John L. Sullivan in 1999.
Lois was a longtime active member of the Jacksonville Presbyterian Church, an honorary member of Delta Kappa Gamma Epsilon Chapter since 1968, as well as the Jacksonville Boosters Club, Garden Club, Retired Teachers Unit III, Oregon Education Association, Friends of the Library, and Senior Club for many years. Her leisure activities included reading the Bible, planting flowers, and watching and feeding the birds. She especially enjoyed watching the deer in her yard. Lois was an avid sports fan, especially football and tennis. She has always maintained a strong concern for the Preservation of the Historical Heritage of the City of Jacksonville.
A memorial service will be held February 23, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Historical Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the first Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville or the charity of your choice.
