Open house celebrates sister cities

Southern Oregon Historical Society will have an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. today to showcase artifacts and photographs from the sister-city relationship between Medford and Alba, Italy.

The displays at the historical society, 106 N. Central Ave., trace the two cities' interaction, which was started in 1960 by Medford's mayor at the time, John Snider. Working through President Dwight Eisenhower's "People to People" program, Snider selected the Italian city for its similar size, climate, topography and agricultural heritage.
