  • Medford police arrested Celeste Kathleen Patton of Central Point Monday night after receiving a tip that she had parked her Hummer on the sidewalk at the north Fred Meyer, then came out of the store on Crater Lake Highway with a bottle of wine and started drinking as she drove off.
The tipster dialed 911 at about 8:40 p.m. Monday and followed the Hummer as it reportedly swerved through traffic on Poplar Drive. When Patton, 36, turned left onto McAndrews Road, the Hummer veered onto the sidewalk and sheared off a light pole, police said in a news release.
The crash knocked a wheel off the vehicle, but Patton drove along on its axle for what police called "a significant distance" before coming to a stop.
Patton, of the 2500 block of Mistletoe Court, wasn't injured.
Patton was unable to pass field sobriety tests, police said. She was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving and failing to perform the duties of a driver.
Police said she was under the influence of alcohol and prescription medication.
