Ralph McGrady, 90, passed away February 11, 2013. He was born January 29, 1923, and raised in Los Gatos, Calif. He attended and graduated from Los Gatos grammar and high school. He attended San Jose State and the University of Illinois. He was a member of Alpha Phi Omega and Sigma Nu fraternities. Ralph enlisted in the Army Signal Corps as a cable splicer during WWII and served in India, China, and Burma. He graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in education from Stanford University.
Ralph married his childhood sweetheart, Constance Pauline Booher, August 29, 1948; they met on a teeter-totter in fifth grade. They were married for 49 years, until her death. Ralph taught for the Redwood City Elementary School District for over 30 years, as well as coached and drove a school bus. He was an active member of Menlo Park Presbyterian Church. He attained the Boy Scout rank of Eagle Scout, was a Scoutmaster for over 30 years, and was awarded the national Silver Beaver (1972) and Order of the Arrow. After retiring, Ralph was an active volunteer for over 15 years as a docent for Hidden Villa Ranch and Environmental Volunteers. After 42 years' occupancy, they sold their house in Redwood City, Calif. and moved to the Rogue Valley Manor in Medford, Oregon June 29, 1996.
Ralph was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. His volunteer work included the S.M.A.R.T. Reading Program, grandparent buddy, grandparent pen pals, church tape ministry, youth mission trips, and exercise class leader.
He was predeceased by wife, Constance Pauline McGrady; sister, Grace Marie Hoyt; brother-in-law, Frank Hoyt; brother, Bruce McGrady; brother-in-law, Robert Dee Booher; mother, Grace Kuykendall McGrady; father, Neal Weber McGrady. He is survived by sisters-in-law, Marjorie McGrady, of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Shirley Booher, of Hayward, Calif.; daughter, Joan McGrady-Beach (husband Randall), of Dublin, Calif.; son, Tom McGrady (wife Mona), of Sonora, Calif.; six grandchildren, Ian (wife Jessica), Emily and Alyssa McGrady-Beach, and Katie McGrady Jenks (husband Noah), Amy Atkins (husband Patrick), and Ryan McGrady (wife Grace); great-granddaughter, Liberty Reign Atkins.
Memorial services to be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013, at Rogue Valley Manor, Sunrise Room at 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013, at John Knox Presbyterian Church in Dublin, Calif.
