  • Fred C. Roberts, 92, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2013. He was born April 5, 1920, in Hayward, Calif. Fred's early years were lived in Hayward, graduating high school in 1937. He graduated University of California Berkeley in 1941, and attended Harvard Graduate School of Business, in Cambridge, Mass. in 1941-1942. From 1943-1946 he served as a U.S. Naval Officer, serving on destroyers in the South Pacific.
    In 1943, Fred married Ruth V. Woodworth in 1943 and had 55 years of married life together until her passing in 1998. They moved to Ashland, Ore. in 1953, and owned and operated the Bagley Canning Company for 25 years. Fred served as an Ashland City Councilman from 1963-1972.
    Survivors include three sons, C. Fred Roberts, of Eugene, Ore., Daniel A. Roberts, of Talent, and his family, Morgan McKelvey and Crystal Jenning, and Gary G. (Uilani) Roberts, also of Talent; two grandsons, Brian Roberts, of Seattle, Wash. and Jeremy Roberts, of Portland. Fred is predeceased by sisters, Margaret Manson and Carla Stewart; and grandson, Zachary Roberts.
    In remembrance of Fred there will be a gathering at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Inti's Restaurant in Talent, Ore. Let's celebrate his life sharing fond memories. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred's name may be made to the Southern Oregon Humane Society.
