    Raiders end up 1-4 in own tourney

  • Southern Oregon began Saturday with a 10-inning walk-off win over Holy Names, but the Raiders closed the day with two losses to finish 1-4 at the 2013 Red Lion SOU Softball Tournament at U.S. Cellular Community Park.
    The Raiders knocked off Holy Names 2-1, then fell 7-4 to British Columbia and 8-3 to Simpson.
    Southern Oregon ended its nonconference schedule with a 4-9 record. It begins Cascade Collegiate Conference play in two weeks, taking on Eastern Oregon at 2 p.m. March 8 in La Grande.
    Against Holy Names, the Raiders got the winning run when pitcher Allison Snider hit SOU's Irene Barrantes with the bases loaded and no outs in the 10th.
    Raider pitcher Sydney White went the distance, allowing one run on four hits with eight strikeouts. Snider allowed only the two runs on six hits.
    SOU's Ashley Lowe and Lauren Keel each tallied two hits for the Raiders, with both of Lowe's going for doubles.
    Against British Columbia, SOU had 11 hits to British Columbia's nine, but the Thunderbirds scored two in the first and three in the second.
    Chelsea Talbert took the loss for the Raiders. Keel amassed three hits, while Alexa Gonzalez and Julia Willison each finished with a pair.
    Against Simpson, Southern Oregon scored three times in the bottom of the first inning, but the Raiders did not score again in the tournament finale. White took the loss for Southern Oregon.
