Spartans skate to shootout victory

Romeo scores five goals, including equalizer in regulation

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — Sebastian Romeo scored five goals, including the equalizer with 10 seconds to go in regulation, as the Southern Oregon Spartans erased a two-goal deficit in the last two minutes of the third period before beating the Bay Area Seals in a shootout, 8-7, Saturday at the Accord Ice Center.

Romeo scored two goals in the first period and two in the second before his final one in the third forced overtime. After the scoreless overtime session, Kevin Edwards and Mike Kowicki came through for the Spartans (24-16) in the shootout and goalie Austin Brihn delivered four saves to seal the comeback victory.

The win was Southern Oregon's fourth in a row.
