Bay Area Seals secure victory, deny Southern Oregon Spartans' sweep

DALY CITY, Calif. — The Southern Oregon Spartans hockey team couldn't pull off the sweep of the Bay Area Seals, who scored the go-ahead goal with less than four minutes to play at the Cow Palace.

The Seals (21-16-1-2) claimed a 3-2 victory on Sunday, but the Spartans (25-17-1) took the series two games to three in the Western States Hockey League matchup.

Less than 30 seconds after the Seals took a 2-1 lead midway through the third period, Southern Oregon's Kevin Edwards squared the score 2-all.

But the Seals' Wes Starr denied the Spartans a comeback with a power-play goal.

Marcus Fred also scored for the Spartans on a power play in the third period.

Southern Oregon Spartans 0 0 2 — 2

Bay Area Seals 1 0 2 — 3
