Youth hoop teams claim S.O. crowns in tourney

South Medford won sixth- and seventh-grade titles and Ashland took the eighth-grade crown as the Southern Oregon Youth Club League held its season-ending Amateur Athletic Union basketball tournament.

In sixth grade, the South Medford White Panthers defeated Grants Pass, 49-39.The winners got 16 points from Cole Boster, 15 from Sam Willis and 16 rebounds from Thomas Fealey. The White team was undefeated in league and went 20-1 overall.

In seventh grade, South Medford Blue topped North Medford, 61-47. Kaleb Franklin had 17 points to pace the Blue, while Jaylin Parnell scored 13 and Evan Dallas 10 to lead the Blue.

In eighth grade, Ashland downed South Medford Blue, 68-55. For Ashland Hayden Layton had 24 points and Malik Pippa had 17. For South, Victor Mitchell had 13 points and Parker Atkinson 11.
