Three men were dumped in the Rogue River about a half-mile upstream from the mouth of Bear Creek on Wednesday after their fishing boat hit a rapid and then struck a tree, Jackson County sheriff's officials said.
The report came at 1:35 p.m. after a man saw the boat's contents floating along the current. Jackson County search-and-rescue crews rushed to the area and learned that Mark Orsenkranz, 58, of Ashland, Dennis Jarvi, 63, of Talent, and Walter Sokolowski, 62, of Medford, were able to swim to shore after their 16-foot drift boat flipped. The men used a sandbar to climb from the current and walked back to their vehicle. All three were uninjured in the incident.
