GENEVA, Ohio — Two Southern Oregon relay teams competed in Thursday's NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championship preliminaries, with the top-ranked distance medley relay team earning a spot in Saturday's final.
The distance medley relay team of Zach Boyd-Helm, Jonz Olander of Grants Pass, Kevin Jorgensen and Eric Avila entered the meet with the NAIA's best time by more than two seconds. The team did not meet its qualifying time in the prelims but its clocking of 10 minutes, 3.82 seconds was good for second place.
Dickinson State, which had the ninth-best qualifying time, took the spot at 9:59.08.
The SOU 4x400-meter relay team of Nick Perrino, Josh Muswieck of Cascade Christian in Medford, Corey Sharp and Olander posted its best time of 3:18.6, but placed 12th and didn't make the final eight.
Returning All-American Sullivan Stevens will compete today in the 60-meter hurdles.
