The premiere of “The Orchard City: Medford, Oregon 1913,” composed by Mark Eliot Jacobs for YSSO, will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, at Parkway Christian Center, 229 N.E. Beacon Drive, Grants Pass; at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at the Craterian Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford; and at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 3, in the Music Recital Hall on the Southern Oregon University campus, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. Cynthia Hutton will conduct.
The concerts also will showcase de Sarasate's “Gypsy Airs” and movements from Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 4 performed by violinist Gilles Apap, among other pieces.
The Youth Orchestra will perform Strauss' “Radetzky March,” the overture to Mozart's “The Marriage of Figaro” and Robert W. Smith's “Great Locomotive Chase.”
Associate Conductor Faina Podolnaya will lead Youth Strings in works by Mozart, Beethoven and Gluck.
Tickets cost $10, $5 for students, and are available at Paddington Station in Ashland, Larry's Music in Medford and Great Northwest Music in Grants Pass. Tickets for the Medford show also are available at the Craterian box office.
