Spartans toppled in final seconds

SAN DIEGO — Cody Jahrig scored on a power play with 22 seconds to go to give the San Diego Gulls a 4-3 victory over the Southern Oregon Spartans on Saturday.

San Diego tied the game earlier in the third period when Tyler Gimerek scored. Jahrig's game-winner gave the Gulls their first lead of the game.

Avik Bordak and Alex O'Leary both scored in the first period — Bordak off a power play — to give the Spartans (25-19) a quick 2-0 lead. After San Diego (23-17) tied the game early in the second, Southern Oregon's Tommy Bennett answered to put the Spartans back on top.

MJ Melanson added two assists for the Spartans.
