Kit DeKorte

Kathleen "Kit" Dobbins-DeKorte, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away Saturday afternoon.

 

Kathy Dobbins was born in San Diego, Calif. in 1943 to Helen Squires-Dobbins and Joe Dobbins. She married Ronald John DeKorte February 17, 1962 in southern California where they raised their family. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage.


In addition to being a full-time wife and mother, Kit spent her working life dedicated to education and Presbyterian churches, serving as Executive Assistant to the Superintendent of Village Christian Schools in Sun Valley, Calif. where her children attended; Executive Assistant to Senior Pastors at Emmanuel Presbyterian in Thousand Oaks, Calif.; Bel Air Presbyterian in Bel Air, Calif.; and locally at Central Point Presbyterian. She was a dedicated member of her church choir, always shared her gift of creativity to make a difference, and was a true bibliophile. She was a passionate wordsmith and passed this on to her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, shopping in her travels, and spending time with family.


Kit is survived by her husband, Ron; daughter and son-in-law, Christi and Bjarne Haukebo; son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Kathy DeKorte; son and daughter-in-law, John and Libby DeKorte; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son, Ronnie, in 1980.


A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at Jacksonville Presbyterian Church, 425 Middle Street (Main Campus), Jacksonville. There will also be a Celebration of Life service held in Thousand Oaks, Calif. at a date to be determined. The family is requesting any donations made in memory of Kit be gifted to:

She changed lives serving as a mentor and friend. Her truth, beauty, and love gracefully directed many closer to Jesus. Kit was dearly loved and will be missed.
