4 p.m. Oregon State Police reports that a server problem is affecting web access and phone transactions for the Firearms Instant Check System, interrupting background checks for people attempting to purchase firearms.
A news release this afternoon said the agency is working with a vendor to resolve the problem, then will work through the backlog of requests as soon as possible.
OSP apologized for the unexpected disruption.
Updated 5:25 p.m. Employees are working hard to complete outstanding requests for record checks and will be on duty until 10 p.m., regular operating hours, OSP reported. Information technology staff plans to work throughout the night as needed to resolve the server problem.
