Raiders earn split against College of Idaho

CALDWELL, Idaho — Southern Oregon bounced back from a 10-7 loss in the opener to pick up a 6-3 victory and claim a doubleheader split against College of Idaho in Cascade Collegiate Conference softball action Saturday.

Alexa Gonzalez led SOU with three hits, including a home run and a double, while Jessica Flores also tallied a trio of hits and Sierra Anderson added a homer. Three College of Idaho players finished with multiple hits on the day.

Southern Oregon (7-10, 3-1 CCC) scored a run in each of the first four innings of the opener, but six C of I runs in the bottom of the sixth gave the Yotes (13-11, 1-3) an insurmountable lead for the win.

Saturday's second game again featured a late tie score and three Raider runs in the top of the seventh, with SOU earning the comeback victory.

Track and Field

AGGIE OPEN — At Davis, Calif., Southern Oregon opened the 2013 outdoor track and field season at the UC Davis Aggie Open, earning 14 Cascade Collegiate Conference qualifying marks along with one NAIA 'A' standard.

Amelia Maguin led the way for the Raiders by setting lifetime personal records in both the 100 and 400-meter hurdle events. She earned CCC qualifying marks in both races and surpassed the NAIA automatic qualifying standard in the 400-meter hurdle race, giving SOU its first national qualifier of the outdoor season.

Mikayla Garrard earned conference qualifiers in two races, finishing the 200-meter dash in seventh place with a time of 26.13. She also qualified in the 400-meter dash, placing seventh as well with a time of 1:00.22.

On the men's side, Devan Barkley led the way with a pair of conference qualifying performances. He finished ninth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.81 and placed 13th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.01. Cody Sharp also qualified in the 110-meter hurdles, placing ninth with a time of 16.17.

Sam Hartinger posted a third-place high jump mark of 6-4 to surpass the conference qualifying mark, as did Jerad Harris, who finished ninth with a jump of 5-8. Nathaniel Snyder wrapped up the Raiders' conference qualifiers with a pole vault mark of 12-01/2.
