  • March 21 is the filing deadline for people interested in running for some 90 positions on local district boards in the next election.
Voters on May 21 will choose school boards, fire district positions, water district boards, and other government entities throughout Jackson County.
County Clerk Chris Walker said she hopes to see new faces in the upcoming election.
"My biggest thing is that people think they are insignificant," said Walker. "These are local people making local decisions. There is no insignificant election; this is a very important election."
Candidates are required to fill out the appropriate forms, which are available on the Jackson County website at www.co.jackson.or.us. The deadline to file with the Jackson County elections office is 5 p.m. Thursday, March 21. The office is at 1101 W. Main St., Suite 201, Medford. Candidates must pay a $10 filing fee.
March 21 is also the deadline for measures to be submitted for placement on the ballot.
Elections Deputy Donna Connor said no measures have been submitted yet, and candidates have filed for fewer than half of the 90 available positions.
The last day to file optional candidate statements and photographs or measurement arguments for the Jackson County voters' pamphlet is March 25. Candidate statements and photographs cost $25.
Ballots will be mailed to long-distance voters in April and to local residents at the beginning of May. The voter registration deadline for the May 21 election is April 30.
